From Oura to Nucu: Finnish Co-Founder’s Next Bet in Sleep Tech
What most people don’t know: Oura Ring's co-founder and former CEO now has another company, Nucu, focused on baby sleep.
Oura is supposedly raising $875 million at an $11 billion valuation. That is more than double its $5 billion mark from late 2024.
The growth is absurd. Oura has sold 5.5 million rings, up from 2.5 million just a year ago.
Revenue hit $500 million in 2024 and is projected to pass $1 billion in 2025, with forecasts of $1.5 billion in 2026.
Oura has become one of the fastest-growing companies in consumer products. But its co-founder and former CEO, Petteri Lahtela, is now behind another company you may not know: Nucu.
Nucu: Redefining baby sleep
Nucu was founded in 2016 in Oulu, Finland. Its product, the Nucu Pad, transforms any baby crib into a smart bed.
The pad slips under the mattress and calms infants with womb-like vibrations, white noise, or a parent’s recorded heartbeat. Sensors adapt in real time, track sleep stages, and monitor the room’s light, temperature, and humidity.
The Nucu App
The pad works on its own, but the app completes the system. Parents can:
Control soothing programs remotely
Watch and listen through a live baby monitor
Track naps and nights with an automatic sleep diary
Review long-term sleep trends
Record and play heartbeats, songs, and stories
The app turns the Nucu Pad into a platform that grows with a child, from newborn to toddler.
In a 141-night study, Nucu’s Rain Feelscape gave babies an average of 44 extra minutes of sleep at the start of the night. Parents reported fewer wake-ups and calmer evenings.
Why It Matters
Oura proved there is massive demand for sleep technology. It started with adults and scaled into a billion-dollar business.
Nucu is taking that same science-driven approach and applying it to one of the hardest challenges in family life: infant sleep. It’s backed by the original Oura team and Finnish deep-tech investors and brings hospital-tested, non-wearable sleep solutions into homes.
The Oura Ring co-founder is now shaping the future of sleep at both ends of life.
Oura redefined how adults measure and improve rest. Nucu is betting the next breakthrough starts in the crib.
